Local Philanthropy
The Fort Lauderdale Alumnae Association is dedicated to helping the community through the following local philanthropy events.
We have participated in fundraising for the local chapter of National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) in 2023 and 2024, raising over $700. NAMI is one of six non-profit organizations that KKG has partnered with that are working to effectively address mental health topics and needs with compassion, authenticity and respect. NAMI provides advocacy, education, support and public awareness so that all individuals and families affected by mental illness can build better lives.
We have held a Reading Is Key event at Wilton Manors Elementary School for many years. In the past few years, we have incorporated our mental health philanthropy by reading and giving books to the children about social-emotional learning. In 2025, we will be holding a Reading Is Key event at the Jack & Jill Center.
"The students had so much fun in the activity centers, loved the goodies, and are excited about having their very own books. Thank you, thank you! " ~ Mrs. Jackson and her 1st grade class @ Wilton Manors Elementary
A number of alumnae participated in the Ft. Lauderdale Beach Sweep cleanup event in May 2023 to help collect litter from Ft. Lauderdale beach.
In addition to local philanthropy, our association supports the KKG Foundation and provides a biannual scholarship through the Barbara Marko Scholarship Fund, which was created in memory of a local alumna. This fund allows us to award a $3,000 scholarship in the name of our Association to a deserving Kappa every other year.
Our Heels & Deals Silent Auction was held for 5 years and raised $10,000. Those proceeds benefited the KKG Foundation and GIRLS Academy Fund.
